XP_AddAdministrator.exe Enable Administrator account on Welcome Screen© Doug Knox - 11/11/2002The original VB Script has been replaced by a Visual Basic program. The functionality is the same. This script is only for use on Windows® XP. You must have Administrator level access to use this utility.Note: This utility will only work if the Administrator account is named "Administrator". Additionally, you can only log into the Administrator account in Safe Mode, if you're running Windows® XP Home Edition. To use: Download the XP_AddAdministrator.zip file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Open the ZIP file you just downloaded and extract the contents to your hard disk. Double click the EXE file that you extracted to run the utility. This utility will allow you to toggle the Administrator account to Enabled or Disabled (on the Welcome Screen), depending on its current state.

The Administrator account is present on every Windows XP machine (all users are by default given the rights of an Administrator) but it is hidden. To password it (and to check that all other accounts are passworded) go to Start>Run and type 'control userpasswords2'.
Make sure that Users must enter a name and password to use this computer is ticked, and then choose the Administrator account and click on Reset Password.

You will be prompted for a password, which you then need to confirm.
